WinLoG Borehole Log Features
Borehole logs are used to display the results of oil and gas, mining, geotechnical and environmental drilling and sampling. Logs can be used to display soil and rock samples. Logs can contain general borehole data (ex. location, client, project number); lithologic descriptions and symbols for each layer; sample data; well completion details; water level measurements; geophysical logs; and numerous graphs and text columns. Once a log is created it can be easily copied using a toolbar button, and then edited and saved to represent other boreholes on the same site.
Using WinLoG, there are no limits to the types of borehole logs that can be created. In WinLoG the term borehole logs also includes boring logs and well logs.
The creation and editing of borehole logs is supported by the following features (items in blue indicate new features):

Winlog New Features
We are very pleased to announce that WinLoG Version 4 has been released. This upgrade has taken over two years to develop and represents the culmination of many of our users and internal ideas for enhancements.
The geographical information system feature added in version 4 displays a location map for the project showing the boreholes, cross-sections, and any surface features. This feature makes it easy to visualize your project and can be used to print a location map of the project. To edit a borehole all you need to do is click on it in the location map.
There are many new and exciting features in version 4, below is a list of some of them.

WinFence can be used to graphically create detailed, full-color, cross sections quickly and easily. The program can be used to interpret and map soil and rock layers, contamination, fossils, minerals and hydrocarbons.
Cross sections are created by specifying the pathline on a location map. The location map shows all of the wells entered in WinLoG and any additional wells specified in WinFence. Pathlines can be straight or bent. The location map including the pathline can also be shown on the cross section.
A wide variety of strata can be used to create cross-sections using WinFence. Types of strata that can be used include layers, faults, lenses, intrusions, and alteration zones. Very detailed and complicated stratigraphy can be represented and easily drawn. Layers can contain multiple segments to represent unconformities and erosion in highly faulted zones.
A unique snapping approach can be used to add layer, alteration zone, intrusion, and lense boundaries. This approach allows the boundary of one strata to be fixed to the boundary of another strata, making the input of strata boundaries quick and accurate. Boundaries can be partially drawn and partially snapped. Snapped boundaries can include one or more different strata. In addition to snapping, strata boundaries can be assigned to the strata above or below.
The format of the cross section is controlled by a template that can be easily edited and customized. Templates are used to specify the format and position of the cross section, title bar, legend block, location map, and scale bar. Company logos, bitmaps, text paragraphs, lines, arrows and rectangles can also be added to templates. Once the template is created, it is available to all projects. WinFence comes with several previously created templates that can be further customized.
WinFence shares the same database as WinLoG and can be used to access and plot the borehole data entered in WinLoG. Several types of borehole data can be plotted on the cross sections including lithologic symbols, sample symbols, core logs, well diagrams, graphs, and geophysical logs. The actual borehole log data can be opened and edited in WinLoG by double-clicking on the borehole in WinFence.
All cross-section data for a project is stored in a Microsoft Access database. This database allows for the quick storage and retrieval of cross-section data and can be interfaced with a variety of other programs. There is no limit to the number of projects and cross sections that can be stored in the database. The database is set up to work across a network if desired, with each project stored in a separate directory.
A master project database is maintained by the program to track the status and locations of projects. This database contains the project number, name and directory location.
WinFence is compatible with Windows 95/98/2000 and NT and supports all the fonts, monitors, and printers available in Windows.

Contam Data System
Category : Geoenvironmental database systems
Publisher : A F Howland Associates
Platform : Win95/98, WinNT, Win2000
Status : Commercial
Description : Contam Data System allows the management of analytical results for the determinands defined in the CNMT pick list defined by the AGS document Electronic Transfer of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Data, 3rd Edition. The pick list amounts to some 417 pre-set determinands but the system allows this to be added to by the user. The system provides a means of entering chemical analytical results, together with project and sample reference information. It allows the data to be recalled for editing and amendment. Checking is carried out from result sheets, which can be either previewed on screen or printed as required. It will generate an AGS format file to contain the key fields in the Group table CNMT and the common fields, Test Result and Test Result Unit. Data is entered in a spreadsheet format and the precise list of determinands shown on the data entry screen is user selectable and stored as pre-set groups. Data within the entry screen is capable of being cut, copied, pasted and deleted in accordance with standard Windows procedures and can be transferred in and out of Excel spreadsheets. Data can be saved at any time and edited at any subsequent period. A data management routine provides backup, copying and renaming of analytical results and user defined determinand pick lists.

KeyGeoView
Category : Geographical information systems
Publisher : Keynetix Ltd
Platform : Win95/98, WinNT, Web/Java
Status : Commercial
Description : The KeyGeoView is a document archive and retrieval system for site investigation data that allows users to archive projects either as scanned documents or as live computer files and to locate the stored data using a GIS map interface. The Base Module works with a single user interface screen and enables users to locate information by; Project references (name, number, location etc), Borehole references (type, number, eastings, northings, depth etc); Document references (name, location). Bookmarks can be set up to mark the start of each chapter or appendix, or for individual test results or borehole logs. Bookmarks can either be linked to a whole project or just the borehole they relate to. The display of the bookmarks can then be limited to only the ones relating to the current borehole or include the project bookmarks. Projects can be located by using the project finder or the project control panel. Boreholes can be located using the borehole finder or scrolling through all the holes in a selected project. All the features of the Base Module will work along side AutoCAD Map3 or AutoCAD Map Guide to provide a GIS interface to the stored data. This allows the user to either locate a borehole within their mapping environment and launch KeyGeoView with that borehole displayed or locate the borehole in KeyGeoView and zoom to the relevant area within the map environment. All the data stored can be accessed over a corporate Intranet, or over the Internet, using Internet Explorer 4 and AutoCAD Map Guide - no software is required on the users machine. Once the required borehole has been located then selecting the geotechnical report button will display the information and available documents on the hole. Users of HoleBASE will then be able to interactively query an AGS file archive and feed AGS data over the Intranet or Internet. All these features can be incorporated into an e-commerce web site for the sale of borehole log data.

Category : Insitu testing
Publisher : Cambridge Insitu Limited
Platform : Win95/98, WinNT, Win2000, WinXP
Status : Commercial
Description : WINSITU is a program for analysing insitu tests carried out with the Cambridge Insitu family of pressuremeters, including the Self Boring Pressuremeter, High Pressure Dilatometer and Cone Pressuremeter. It contains routines for implementing a number of standard and not so common analyses for soils and rock presented graphically. Standard analyses include the Gibson & Anderson (1961) procedures for identifying strength, less common analyses include the procedure suggested by Bolton & Whittle (1999) for drawing the decay of stiffness with strain from small cycles of unloading and reloading. The resulting plots and data can be printed directly from the program or exported to other formats such as Excel. The results can also be output in CSV or in AGS format.
